Now we're going to look at transformations. There are many different kinds, and the first we'll do is reflections. Let's sat we're given this question:
Reflect shape A in the y axis. Label your new shape B.
This means we take every point on shape A, and we count how many squares away it is from the y axis (remember, the y axis is the vertical one). For example, the top right corner is 3 squares away from the y axis.
Now we count 3 sqaures from the y axis IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. Here, it would be (3,6).
We can do the same for every other point, then join them up. After labelling the shape B, it looks like:
And there's our new shape! Sometimes reflections are more complicated, as you'll see in our quiz, but the same basic method is required.
My top tip on this is to READ THE QUESTION. The most common mistake is to reflect the shape in the wrong axis!
