Complex algebraic fractions can be very hard to explain, so I'm just going to cover the simpler ones in this topic. Don't worry, though - I'll do the harder ones too in the future.
Let's say we're given this question:
Simplify: 8x + 4xy
6x + 2xy
These kind really aren't any harder than a normal fraction. We need to find something that everything divides by. The obvious one is 2, so:
4x + 2xy
3x + xy
Actually, there's another common factor as well - x. If we cancel that, we get:
4 + 2y
3 + y
