Hello again! Today we're going to look at dividing fractions. Please note that any mixed numbers will need to be converted to improper fractions first - if you don't know how to do this please see that post beforehand. You also need to know how to multiply fractions before you can divide them. So, we've been given a question:
Divide 1/2 by 6/5
Ok, so what we do is, we take the fraction that's being divided by (6/5) and switch it around - so it's 5/6!
Now, instead of dividing by 6/5, we multiply by 5/6! Please note that you do this even when the backwards fraction (it's called the reciprocal) is an improper fraction.
1/2 x 5/6
Here are my calculations for multiplying them together (if you don't know what I'm talking about please see multiplying fractions):
1 x 5 = 5
2 x 6 = 12
5/12
